Schisandra chinensis, the Chinese berry grape, has been used as a medicine for more than 2,000 years - especially in traditional Chinese medicine, but also in Japan and Korea. The climbing plant has citrus-like red berries, the taste of which takes getting used to, and we therefore do not use them as food. In China they are called “Wu Wei Zi”, which means “herb of the 5 flavors”. The five flavors are meant: bitter, sweet, salty, sour and hot.
