  • cornstarch
  • sucrose

  • Magnesium stearate (vegetable)
  • hypromellose
  • Castor oil, refined

indication

  • The preparation binds phosphate from food and enables it to be excreted in the stool.
  • It is used to lower high levels of phosphate in the blood.
  • It is used in chronic kidney failure with indicated dialysis.

RENACET 950 mg pill, chronic kidney failure dosage

  • Always take the preparation exactly as your doctor has told you. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
    • Adults:
      • for breakfast: ½-1 film-coated tablets
      • with a snack: ½-1 film-coated tablets
      • with the main meal: 1-3 film-coated tablets
      • for dinner: 1-2 film-coated tablets
  • The dosage varies from patient to patient. Since the preparation binds the phosphate from the food, the number of film-coated tablets must be adjusted according to the amount of food ingested (portion size) and thus the amount of phosphate ingested. (For example, 2 film-coated tablets for breakfast with only one piece of bread and jam would lead to an excess of calcium and thus to a risk of increasing the calcium level in the blood. On the other hand, only 1 film-coated tablet with a rich midday meal may be too little to compensate for the larger amount of phosphate ingested with the main meal bind (i.e. not sufficiently effective).
  • Please follow the instructions for use, otherwise the preparation may not work as expected!

  • If you take more than you should
    • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take more than the amount on this leaflet or prescribed by your doctor.

  • If you forget to take a dose
    • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Continue treatment as directed by your doctor.

  • If you stop taking it or end it prematurely
    • Please do not change the dosage or stop treatment without first discussing this with your doctor.

RENACET 950 mg pill, chronic kidney failure way

  • The film-coated tablets should be taken during or immediately after a meal.
  • The tablets must be swallowed whole and with some liquid.

side effects

  • Like all medicines, the preparation can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.
  • The evaluation of side effects is based on the following frequency information:
    • Very common: affects more than 1 in 10 people
    • Common: affects 1 to 10 users in 100
    • Uncommon: affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000
    • Rare: affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000
    • Very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000 people
    • Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data
  • General disorders:
    • Uncommon: soft tissue calcifications (e.g. in the fatty tissue under the skin)
      • usually only after many years of ingestion and with frequently increased calcium levels in the blood.
  • Heart and circulation:
    • Uncommon: Elevated levels of calcium in the blood, especially after overdose.
  • Gastrointestinal tract:
    • Rare: Gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea and constipation, especially if the dose is too high.
  • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the listed side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed here.

RENACET 950 mg pill, chronic kidney failure interactions

  • When taking the preparation with other medicines
    • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
    • A time interval of 1-2 hours between taking the preparation and other medicines must always be observed.
    • Taking other medicines at the same time can affect their absorption in the body:
      • For example:
        • medicines used to treat infections (tetracyclines and doxycycline, quinolones),
        • medicines for osteoporosis (bisphosphonates),
        • medicines to prevent tooth decay (fluorides),
        • treatment with drugs belonging to the group of anticholinergics,
        • treatment with vitamin D supplements.
    • An increase in the effect of the preparation can occur in the treatment of cardiac insufficiency with drugs, the so-called cardiac glycosides.
    • A reduction in effectiveness can occur when treating heart failure with medicines called calcium antagonists.
    • There is a greater risk of increased blood calcium levels with treatment with water tablets called thiazide diuretics. The use of adrenaline can lead to severe cardiac arrhythmia if the calcium level is elevated.
    • A supply of larger amounts of calcium salts can cause the precipitation of fatty and bile acids as calcium soaps. This can impair the absorption of urso- and chenodeoxycholic acid and of fats and fat-soluble vitamins.
  • When taken with food and drink
    • The preparation should be taken during or immediately after a meal. The tablets must be swallowed whole and with some liquid.

Contraindications

  • The preparation must not be taken:
    • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to calcium acetate or any of the other ingredients
    • with low phosphate concentrations in the blood,
    • with increased calcium concentrations in the blood,
    • increased excretion of calcium with the urine associated with the occurrence of calcium-containing kidney stones,
    • in decalcifying tumors and metastases in the bones (bone tissue metastases),
    • if you have severe kidney failure without dialysis treatment,
    • in case of constipation,
    • with known narrowing of the colon,
    • with abnormal bone decalcification as a result of a long lack of exercise (lying down, wheelchair).

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
  • However, the likelihood of hypercalcaemia is increased in pregnant women who take both calcium and vitamin D at the same time.

patient RENACET 950 mg pill, chronic kidney failure notes
