Psyllium seeds are often the seeds of the species Plantago ovata (Indian plantain). The seeds are glossy reddish-brown and resemble fleas, which gave the plant the name "flea herb." Dioscorides already mentioned the benefits of psyllium seeds in antiquity. The mucilage contained in the psyllium husks can bind water in the intestines and swell. This increases the volume of the intestinal contents, which stimulates digestion and has a mild laxative effect. At the same time, the stool becomes softer, which facilitates bowel movements. Insufficient fluid intake can lead to intestinal obstruction. Psyllium husks can interfere with the absorption of medications; therefore, leave a one-hour interval between doses.

The stated recommended daily intake must not be exceeded. Dietary supplements are not a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of small children.
