This product contains folate in the form of calcium L-methylfolate (Metafolin®). Metafolin® is a form of folate bioequivalent to naturally occurring folate. L-methylfolate (L-5-MTHF) is a form of folate found in food, while Metafolin® is simply the calcium salt of this compound. Metafolin® is well-absorbed compared to folic acid, commonly used in dietary supplements. It is also a recommended form of folate for people with MTHFR polymorphism – a genetic change that hinders the proper metabolism of folic acid from diet or supplements.
