The head louse is a wingless insect that lives only in human hair, most often in the hair of children aged 6–15 years. It feeds exclusively on human blood, which it sucks up several times a day. The legs of the head louse have a claw with which it clings to the hair. The female head louse lays eggs (called nits) and attaches them to the hair close to the skin with a strong adhesive. The nymphs hatch already 7 days later; they immediately begin biting and sucking blood.

The lice are transmitted through close contact with an infested person, most often a family member, sibling or school friend. The presence of head lice is manifested by excessive itching or tickling of the scalp, caused by the lice crawling in the hair. The development time of the head louse is 17–25 days; the female lives for up to 5 weeks and can lay 50-150 eggs. Lice infestation can be reliably confirmed by the discovery of live lice when combing with a thick metal comb or by examining the hair. The nits are most often found on the hair behind the ears, on the temples and on the neck. The head louse resists all common hygiene products. Special products must be used to remove the head louse.

EVOLSIN® LICE SHAMPOO against head lice and nits is a silicone-based product. Silicones, especially dimethicone, are used extensively in cosmetic products. No skin irritations have been observed after local application. The product has a purely physical mechanism of action; it has no pharmacological effect. Since the product does not contain insecticides, no resistance develops and it can even be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women and children from 6 months of age.

EVOLSIN® LICE SHAMPOO for hair affected by lice and nits is a medical device intended for local application to hair and scalp to eliminate head lice (Pediculus capitis) and prevent the development of nits. The product is a mixture of synthetic and natural oils; it contains silicone oil, almond oil, apricot kernel oil and vitamin E.

The product can be used by adults, pregnant and breastfeeding women and children from 6 months of age.
