The medicine is a neuropathy preparation
- Alpha-lipoic acid, the active ingredient in the drug, is a substance formed in the body's own metabolism in higher organisms that influences certain metabolic processes in the body. In addition, alpha-lipoic acid has (antioxidative) properties that protect nerve cells from reactive degradation products.
- The preparation is used for paraesthesia in diabetic nerve damage (polyneuropathy)
- Always use this medicine exactly as directed. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Please follow the instructions for use, otherwise the product will not work properly!
-
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
- In cases of severe discomfort caused by diabetic polyneuropathy, the daily dosage for adults is 600 mg of alpha-lipoic acid (equivalent to 1 injection vial) in the initial phase.
- The injection solution is used over a period of 2 - 4 weeks in the initial phase of treatment.
- To continue treatment, 300 mg to 600 mg of alpha-lipoic acid should be taken daily in capsule, tablet or coated tablet form.
- Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.
-
If you have used more than you should
- In case of overdose, nausea, vomiting and headache may occur.
- In individual cases, severe, sometimes life-threatening symptoms of poisoning have been observed when more than 10 g of alpha-lipoic acid was taken, particularly when heavy alcohol was consumed at the same time (such as generalized seizures, disruption of the acid-base balance with lactic acidosis, severe blood coagulation disorders).
- Therefore, if a significant overdose is suspected, immediate hospitalization and initiation of measures in accordance with the general principles of treatment for cases of poisoning are necessary.
-
If you forget to use
- A double dose should not be used to make up for a forgotten dose.
-
If you cancel the application
- The use should not be discontinued without consulting a doctor.
- If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Intravenous administration should be slow, with the contents administered as a short infusion over at least 30 minutes. The infusion is carried out directly from the bottle using standard infusion equipment and the enclosed light-protective hanging bag. Because the active ingredient is sensitive to light, the injection bottle should only be removed from the folding box shortly before use. It must be ensured that the minimum infusion time of 30 minutes is observed.
