Essence of the plant:
Coriandrum embodies a quest for roundness. This is reflected in its use as a spice plant, in its shape and, of course, in its use as a medicinal plant. As a spice plant, it is almost never found as a single spice in dishes, but it is one of the main components of the popular curry spice mix. The plant carries – at least at the beginning – a strong polarity within itself. In terms of taste, it manifests itself in the fact that it tastes very soapy at first and can even make some people nauseous while others love it. However, many people can get used to the taste over time and learn to love it. 

The smell is also disgustingly bug-like at first, but then rounds off harmoniously towards the ripening of the seeds. The most striking sign of polarity is the shape of the leaf. The lower leaves of the plant usually look different than the upper ones. The former, still strongly watery, have three lobes and notched edges, reminiscent of uncurled parsley leaves, the latter are much more airy and more reminiscent of fennel or dill leaves. The design principle of the plant can be understood as an attempt to find a way of dealing with this unresolved polarity.
