Clensia Powder Bowel Cleansing Solution 1 Pack

Clensia is a medical powder designed for bowel cleansing prior to diagnostic examinations such as colonoscopy. The formulation contains simethicone, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium sulfate, citric acid, potassium chloride and macrogol 4000. It is supplied in a single sachet that is mixed with water to create a clear solution for oral intake. The product is suitable for adults and children over six years of age. Contraindications include bowel obstruction and known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. The preparation is intended to be taken on an empty stomach before the procedure.

  • The medicine is a lime-flavored intestinal preparation and is available as a powder for oral administration in 8 sachets.
  • It consists of 4 (large) sachets A and 4 (small) sachets B, the contents of which are mixed and dissolved with water before use.
  • You or your child will take this medicine to cleanse the bowel so that the examination can be carried out.
  • It works by emptying the bowels, so watery stools are to be expected.
  • This medicine is used in adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and older.
  • The medicine must not be taken,
    • if you or your child are allergic to macrogol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
    • if you or your child have a bowel obstruction (gastrointestinal obstruction).
    • if you or your child have a bowel perforation (gastrointestinal perforation).
    • if you or your child have a gastric emptying disorder.
    • if you or your child have paralytic ileus (often occurs as a result of abdominal surgery).
    • if you or your child have toxic colitis or toxic megacolon (a serious complication of acute colitis).
  • The drug must not be administered to unconscious patients.
  • Use in adults
    • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
    • Read the following instructions carefully before taking this medication. You need to know:
      • when to take the medication.
      • how the solution is prepared.
      • how to drink it
      • what effects can be expected.
    • When to take the medication
      • Your doctor or healthcare professional should have informed you when to take this medicine. Your treatment with this medicine must be completed before your clinical examination. The medicine can be taken according to the following instructions:
        • Total dose on the day before the examination:
          • The contents of 4 sachets A and 4 sachets B are dissolved in 2 liters of water and drunk on the evening before the examination.
        • Dose distribution:
          • The contents of 2 sachets A and 2 sachets B are dissolved in 1 liter of water and drunk on the evening before the examination, and the contents of 2 sachets A and 2 sachets B are dissolved in 1 liter of water and drunk on the morning of the day of the examination.
        • Important: From the start of taking the medication until the end of the examination, you must not consume any solid food.
    • You should not have drunk anything for at least two hours before the colonoscopy.
    • What effects can be expected?
      • As soon as you start taking the solution, make sure there is a toilet nearby.
      • After a while, watery stools will occur. This is normal and an indication that the solution is working.
      • Bowel movements will cease shortly after the end of the course of medication.
      • If you follow these instructions, your bowel will be cleansed, which will contribute to a successful examination.
  • Use in children and adolescents
    • Young people and children aged 6 and over
      • Give this medicine to your child exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor if you are unsure.
      • This medicine is for oral use.
      • The entire dose is administered in the late afternoon (4-6 pm) of the day before the diagnostic procedure.
      • Dissolve the contents of 2 sachets A and two sachets B in 1 liter of water to prepare the first liter of the medicinal solution.
      • Dissolve the contents of 2 sachets A and 2 sachets B in another liter of water to prepare the second liter of medicinal solution, if required.
      • The dose depends on the child's age and body weight (in kg).
    • Children aged 6 to under 12 years:
      • Body weight up to 25 kg: Administer 750 ml of the medicinal solution over a period of 1-2 hours.
      • In addition, give 375 ml of a clear liquid (water, fruit juice, soft drink, tea (without milk)) to replenish fluids.
      • Body weight between 25 and 35 kg: Administer 1000 ml of the medicinal solution over a period of 1 to 2 hours. In addition, administer 500 ml of a clear liquid (water, fruit juice, soft drink, tea (without milk)) to replace lost fluids.
      • Body weight over 35 kg: Administer 1250 ml of the medicinal solution over a period of 1-2 hours. In addition, administer 625 ml of a clear liquid (water, fruit juice, soft drink, tea (without milk)) to replace lost fluids.
      • If your child has not had a watery, clear bowel movement 3 hours after completing the bowel preparation, administer up to 500 ml of additional medicated solution.
    • Young people older than 12 years:
      • Body weight up to 45 kg: Administer 1500 ml of the medicinal solution over a period of 2-3 hours.
      • In addition, give 750 ml of a clear liquid (water, fruit juice, soft drink, tea (without milk)) to replenish fluids.
      • Body weight over 45 kg: Administer 1750 ml of the medicinal solution over a period of 2-3 hours.
      • In addition, give 875 ml of a clear liquid (water, fruit juice, soft drink, tea (without milk)) to replenish fluids.
      • If the adolescent has not had a watery, clear bowel movement 3 hours after completion of the bowel preparation, administer additional medicated solution until a maximum total dose of 2000 ml of medicated solution is reached.

 

  • If you have taken a larger amount than you should
    • If you or your child have taken more than you should, you or your child may experience severe diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids, especially fruit juices. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you are concerned.

 

  • If you forgot to take it
    • If you or your child have forgotten to take it, take it as soon as you or your child notice.
    • If several hours have passed since the scheduled time for taking the medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist. It is important that you or your child have completed your preparation at least two hours before the examination.

 

  • If you stop taking
    • If you have any further questions about taking this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • It is normal for diarrhea to occur after taking the medication.
  • If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately. You should not continue taking the medicine until you have discussed the symptoms with your doctor.
    • rash or itching
    • Swelling of the face, ankles, or other body parts
    • Irregular heartbeats
    • Severe fatigue
    • shortness of breath
  • Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):
    • Nausea, abdominal pain, bloated abdomen.
  • Common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 100 people):
    • Headache, vomiting, painful anus.
  • Occasional side effects (may affect more than 1 in 1,000 people):
    • Temporary increase in blood pressure, stomach pain, taste disturbances, dry mouth, chills, decreased potassium levels in the blood.
  • The following side effects have been reported with the use of other formulations containing polyethylene glycol, but it is not known how frequently these occur, as the frequency cannot be estimated from the available data:
    • Allergic reactions (sometimes severe to the point of shock), dehydration, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, malaise, near-fainting, sensation of the room spinning (vertigo), redness, hives, changes in blood salt concentrations such as decreases or increases in sodium, calcium and chloride, and decreases in bicarbonate.
    • Sodium levels in the blood can also drop, especially in patients taking drugs that affect the kidneys, such as ACE inhibitors and diuretics, which are used to treat heart disease.
    • These reactions usually occur on the day of the examination. If they persist, talk to your doctor.
  • Additional side effects in children and adolescents
    • Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):
      • Nausea, abdominal pain, bloated stomach, vomiting, fatigue.
    • Common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 100 people):
      • Painful anus, weakness.
    • Occasional side effects (may affect more than 1 in 1,000 people):
      • Headache, chills, diarrhea, unusual bowel movements, belching.
  • If you experience any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
