Maternal intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contributes to normal brain and eye development in the fetus and breastfed infant. Folic acid contributes to normal maternal tissue growth during pregnancy and normal blood formation. Iron contributes to the normal formation of erythrocytes and hemoglobin.
