  • With heparin sodium, the drug contains an active ingredient from the group of mucopolysaccharides.
  • This group is characterized by anticoagulant activities and reduces swelling.
  • The medicine is used to support the treatment of acute swelling after blunt injuries (bruise/bruising).



  • Always use the medicine exactly as directed. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
    • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, is the usual dose
      • The drug should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected area 2-3 times a day.


  • duration of use
    • The doctor decides on the duration of the application. Unless otherwise prescribed, the drug should not be used for more than 10 days.

side effects

  • Like all medicines, the medicine can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.
    • The frequency of side effects is based on the following categories:
      • Very common more than 1 in 10 people treated

      • Rarely affects 1 to 10 in 10,000 people
      • Very rarely affects less than 1 in 10,000 people

        • Very rare: allergic reactions when applied to the skin, such as reddening of the skin and itching, which usually disappear quickly after the preparation has been discontinued.
        • The drug should be discontinued if allergic skin reactions occur. Please inform your doctor about this. Beyond that, no further measures are necessary.
      • Blood and hematopoietic system
        • Not known: The frequency of occurrence of heparin-induced antibody-mediated type II thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count < 100,000/µl or a rapid drop in platelet count to < 50% of baseline), with arterial and venous thrombosis or embolism, which may be fatal can run, has not been investigated in local application on the skin. However, since the absorption of heparin through healthy skin after local application has been described, this risk cannot be ruled out with certainty. Increased attention is therefore indicated.
        • In patients without imminent hypersensitivity to heparin, the drop in blood platelet counts usually begins 6-14 days after the start of treatment. In patients with hypersensitivity to heparin, this decrease may occur within hours.
    • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed here.


  • When using the medicine with other medicines
    • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or have recently used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
    • Interactions with other drugs are not known for local use.



  • The drug must not be used
    • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to heparin sodium or any of the other ingredients of the cream,
    • if you have an acute or a history of an allergic drop in the number of blood platelets (type II thrombocytopenia) caused by heparin.


pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • pregnancy and breast feeding period
    • Previous experience with the use of pregnant and lactating women has not yielded any indications of harmful effects. Heparin does not cross the placenta and does not pass into breast milk.
    • The drug must not be used on the breast area during breast-feeding.
    • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using any medicine.


patient notes

  • Particular caution is required when using the drug
    • The medicinal product should not be applied to open wounds and/or weeping eczema.
    • If new symptoms occur that may indicate thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, such as
      • swelling and warmth in the affected part of the body,
      • reddened and tense skin, possibly turning blue,
      • Feeling of tension and pain in the foot, calf and hollow of the knee (relief when lying up)
      • sudden shortness of breath, chest pain and weakness/collapse
      • the presence of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia type II must be ruled out and the blood platelet count (thrombocyte count) must be checked immediately.
    • Regular checks of the platelet values ​​are necessary with every heparin application.
    • The platelet count should be checked:
      • before starting heparin administration
      • on the 1st day after the start of heparin administration
      • then every 3-4 days until the end of the heparin treatment.
    • An increased risk of bleeding cannot be ruled out if drugs that interfere with blood clotting are used at the same time. Bruising may occur more frequently or increase in size.
    • During treatment with the medicine, injections into the muscle should be avoided because of the risk of bruising (haematomas).
