Black cumin (Nigella sativa) has been used in the Orient for over 2000 years. The plant is native to Turkey, Iraq, and West Asia, where it is used as a spice or pressed into oil. 

Ingredients of black cumin seed oil

The oil extracted from the seeds is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids . These cannot be produced by the body itself and must be obtained through diet. They include linoleic acid , eicosadienoic acid, and dihomolinoleic acid. They are involved in many metabolic processes and can, among other things, help regulate cholesterol levels.

Other components of black cumin seed oil are bitter substances , saponins and essential oils.

Furthermore, black cumin contains seven of the eight essential amino acids : valine, serine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, glycine, arginine, and asparagine. These are important for many metabolic processes, cell formation, and muscle building.

The minerals contained in black cumin , such as zinc, selenium, magnesium and vitamins (B vitamins, vitamin A and C), also support the body's nutrient supply.
