What is berberine?
Berberine is a yellow-colored alkaloid* found in various plants. It is an important bioactive substance present in the roots, stems, bark, and berries of the genus Berberis. Greenleaves uses a very pure extract from the roots of the species Berberis aristata, also known as awned barberry.

Berberine-containing plants have been used for thousands of years in India, China, Japan, and many other countries. Since the 1950s, berberine has also been isolated as a substance and used as a dietary supplement. Scientific interest has increased enormously in the last twenty years, and now approximately 200 articles on berberine are published annually. 

Alkaloids (the name derives from the Arabic  al-qalya , plant ash, and the Greek  -oides,  similar) form a group of nitrogen-containing, mostly basic reactants. They are natural substances that occur particularly in the plant kingdom and are classified as secondary plant metabolites.

Recommended intake:
Take 1 to 3 capsules per day with a meal and water, or as recommended.
