Structure and function of our joints

Our joints allow movement between the bones. In order to make these movements as low-friction as possible, all joints are covered at their ends with a glassy - gelatinous mass: the articular cartilage. Like a shock absorber, cartilage and synovial fluid cushion the impact of forces. At the same time, the synovial fluid also serves as a transport medium to supply the cartilage with good nutrients and to transport pollutants away. Movement creates what is known as a pump effect, ie the synovia and its nutrients are brought to the cartilage primarily through physical activity.
