The acerola fruit comes from tropical South America and looks very similar to our cherry, even if they are not botanically related. The name "Acerola" comes from the Spanish word "azerole" which means pretty and useful. Hardly any other fruit contains as much vitamin C as the acerola: 1700 mg per 100 g are in it. For comparison: Oranges only have about 45 mg per 100 g.
